Since I trained in stone masonry in the early 1980’s I’ve worked on mainly historic buildings and churches replacing, restoring and repairing stonework. Sometimes that can involve two months sitting high on a scaffold lime pointing, experiencing the sun wheel across the day and looking out over summer landscape. Sometimes it is crouching in an awkward corner under a scaffold lift cutting out old stone work by hand or with an angle grinder in January. And at other times it can be days in the workshop or yard cutting, carving and moving stone… at times repetitious work, on other occasions unique and challenging.
